Introduction

Game Screen

The goal of this game is to find the secret number selected randomly by iGotIt. After each guess you are told the number of digits that are in the solution and in the right column (    ). You are also told how many digits are in the solution but in the wrong column (    ).

For example if iGotIt selected 5706 as the number to find, and you try 5678:

The digit 1 corresponds to the 5 being in the correct column and the 2 for the 6 and 7 being in the incorrect column but part of the solution. The digit 8 does not contribute to the result since it is not in the solution.

Flex your brain and try your powers of deduction while finding the correct answer in the least number of tries and in the shortest time possible.

iGotIt supports the use of annotations to help you find the solution quicker. Invest some time to understand the power of annotations. It almost feels like a different game when you use them.

You can select the number of digits in the solution and the range of possible values for each digit in the Options and Scores screen.

Game Screen

Evaluating a Try

Begin by entering the numbers you want and clicking the iGotIt button. iGotIt adds the new try to the list of attempted tries and returns two important digits as feedback. The first digit displayed in (    ) indicates the number of digits in your try that are part of the solution and are in the correct column. The second digit displayed in (    ) tells you how many digits in your try are part of the solution but are not in the correct column.

For example if the correct solution for a game is 12345 and your try is 20945, iGotIt will respond with:

The digit 2 corresponds to the 4 and 5 being in the correct column and the 1 for the 2 being in the incorrect column but part of the solution.

Game Controls

Pause

Stops the timer and sends you back to the main screen. The status of the game is preserved so you can come back to it later.

Hint

It will display the correct value for the selected column. Your score will not be recorded if you select one or more hints. The value will be locked in the correct position so you do not have to type it again and again.

Lock column

If you want to keep trying the same digit in the same column repeatedly, you can lock the value in the column to save you some work. If you change your mind you can always unlock the column.

Erase All

Clears the digits input in all the non-locked columns.

Erase

Clears the digit input in the selected column.

iGotIt

Evaluates your guess and gives you feedback.

Annotation

Tapping any of the digits in the list of tries attempted will take you to the annotations screen. The digit tapped will be selected in the annotations screen. Tapping the annotations button will also take you to the annotations screen. The digit selected in this case will be the leftmost digit in the first guess.

Annotation Screen

The annotation screen has three sections.

Tries Attempted

The top section presents the list of tries attempted so far and the corresponding results. You can scroll to different tries. Tapping a digit will select it.

Annotation Buttons

These controls allow you to annotate the selected digit relative to its current location. Annotations affect all guesses. Some annotations affect the digits only in the selected column. Some affect the digit regardless of column. For example if you tap you are only affecting the annotation for instances of that digit in the selected column. You do not have any information regarding other columns even if the digit is part of the solution or not. On the other hand if you tap you affect the appearance of the digit in all the columns. It will be colored with      in the selected column but with      in all other columns. Tapping will color the digit      in all columns.

Erase

Erases all annotations for the selected digit. This button affects all tries and columns.

? Help

Toggles between normal and help mode. In help mode you can tap any of the annotation buttons to get a short description of what the button does. Tap the help button again to return to normal mode.

Not in Solution

Use this annotation when you are certain the digit selected is not part of the solution. From this point on the digit will be displayed with the color (    ) everywhere.

Not in Column

Use this annotation when you are certain the digit selected cannot be in the selected column. Using this annotation does not imply that the digit is part of the solution, only that it cannot occur in this column. For example if you get a result of 0 2. You can not tell if a digit is in the solution or not but, you know as a fact that none of the digits in your try can be in their current column. Use this button to annotate all digits in your try. From that point on the digit will be shown with the color (    ) when the digit is in its current column.

No Other Column

Use this annotation when you do not have enough information to tell if the digit is in the solution or not, but if it is, the only posible place would be the selected column. For example if you get a result of 1 0. You can not tell if a digit is in the solution or not but, you know as a fact that then only column possible for all the digits is their current one. Use this button to annotate all digits in your try. From that point on the digits will be shown with the color (    ) when the digit is in its current column and with the color (    ) in all other columns.

In Solution Some Column

Use this annotation when you know the digit is part of the solution but you do not have enough information to determine which column yet. The digit will be shown with this color (    ).

In Solution Other Column

Use this annotation when you know the digit is part of the solution and you are certain it is not in the selected column. The digit will be shown in (    ) when appears in its current column and with (    ) in all the other columns.

In Place

Use this annotation when you know the digit is part of the solution and is in the selected column. The digit will be shown in (    ) in its current column and in (    ) in all the other columns. To save you time, it will also apply to all other digits with respect to this column.

Note that the effect of the annotations is additive. iGotIt will use the previous annotation to calculate the new state. For example if you had selected for a digit previously and you now select the digit will appear in color (    ) in the current column and in color (    ) in all the other columns. If instead you select then the digit will be shown in (    ) in its current column and in (    ) in all other columns.

iGotIt will try its best to add the information but you may get incorrect results if you feed iGotIt with incorrect or conflicting information. You can always erase the annotations for those digits and start from a clean slate.
